I am feelin the funk Tuesday, May 30 2006

I let loose this weekend and I think my body is now telling me to take a rest. I have a few upcoming trips planned for work so I am going to get helathy. I think going to see Honeyboy Edwards last night is the straw that broke the camels back. It was worth it though, I mean how often do you get the opportunity to see a 91 year old blues legend.
I had a really good time all weekend. I hung out with friends, found a new fishing hole in the Parish and I got to actually hang out with my girlfriend and she wasnt even working. AMAZING.
Lala got an awesome job teaching printmaking at New Orleans Glass Works. How many Art/English graduates get a job in their field right after school and get paid? She kicks ass so I know she will do well with this.
Tonight I heal.

Finally finished, fishin and friends Friday, May 26 2006

I have been workin like a dog for the last few weeks trying to finish the video. That f@$#&^ is done though and I am pleased with the results. Now it is up to the record label to work it and show it. It took almost five months but I learned so much and I was able to run the show. I enjoyed it, I really did.

Fishin’ has been absolutely incredible. I caught three specs all over 20 inches in just 45 minutes. I am addicted to fishin during spring and early summer, I just wish it didnt cross with my cycling.

Lilah is so excited about me fishin she tried it herself. Look at the bottom right of the above picture and you will notice a fish hook that we had to get removed from lip. A cajun doctor walked into the waiting room at the emergency clinic (she decided to eat the hook at 8 pm on a Saturday) and said ” Na ya know dat dawgs aint suppos-ta be fishin”. He then gave her a shot of some dope and lilah pulled a drunken CHOMPS, she faught the meds as if she were saying “I aint loaded, I can drive”.

The rewards of fishin can be prepared in many ways. I just started grilling fish with my new fish basket.

/jaws

But I will never forget about or quit using the Amazing Cooker Fryer.

So it is now summer and that means so much here. Backyard cookouts with friends become a common event.

/jaws

Cold beer to make the heat just a little more tolerable.

Of course “Rockin with the new Bayou 95.7″. There is nothin like grilling to some Journey, STYX and gettin the Led out.

Who is the Italian Stallion Friday, May 5 2006

burn

Well tomorrow the 89 Giro d’ Italia will begin and my social being will begin to morph into the pro tour fanatic that I am. That means that every conversation will end talking about Giro d Italia. I will meet up with my cycling peeps on a daily basis to at least discuss the tactics and the days winner. Several big guns are lining up for what is sure to be a legendary race. Here era the five riders that I think have the best chance to be in the Maglia Rosa. They are in no particular order.

burn

Ok. I say this every year but this guy has mad talent. Is he Apollo Creed and washed up or is going to come out swinging.

burn

Lance beat this guy but I think it is his turn to have the eye of the tiger.

burn

Il Falco won this race last year like ROCKY I without a doubt.

burn

I hate this guy as much as I hate Clubber Lang he talks alot of shit but he has won before.

burn

He is the Drago of this race. Good rider, real strong and kinda unpredictable and stupid.

Thats my picks for this years Giro d Italia. Will the Italian Stallion please stand up.

Lake Pontchartrain a New Era Wednesday, May 3 2006

burn

I have lived in Louisiana my entire life and I have fished that lake every year. I have never seen this many or this variety of fish in the lake. Even when I was a youngin’ I never caught multiple reds off the bank. I saw someone catch a Jack while he was sitting right next to me.

burn

I have been fishing pretty often, like every other day, and rarely have I come home empty handed. I will usually catch a few drum or a couple of specs and I am always catching Gafftops.

burn

So last night I was fishing in my usual spot and it was about 1 am. I made a long cast to get into a deep hole that is out there. I got a strange bite. A fish barely grabbed my bait and I could feel the fish chewing on it. I tried to set the hook and it was like I was hung up. I tried again, and felt him fight a little and than the line popped again. I thought this must be a big sting ray. I threw in the same spot and got him hooked. He took off long enough to feel that I was going to have to work to get this fish in. I set the drag and while doing so he spit the hook out. Next cast, same spot and I got the same weird bite. I set the hook and we were in for a fight. I fought him for 45 minutes and probably walked a mile back and forth trying to keep him on. He was so big that when he dicided it was time to go there was nothing I could do about it. I kept fighting and got the fish about 15 feet from the bank. I was looking down and it was dark but the fish was easily over 4′ long. He surfaced and rolled on his side. All I saw was a black top part of the body and a snow white belly. I am going to guess he was at least 60 pounds (not exaggerating). His body was long, lean and not truncated. He was laying at the top, exausted and trying to give any fight he could. I tried to pull him closer and the leader (60 pound rest) broke. I didnt want to bring him on the bank because I dont know how I would have and whatever it was was not going to fit in the jeep. I wish I could have got a better look. I don’t know what it was but here is what is wasnt.
It wasnt a gar because I saw his skin and it didnt have thick scales.
It wasnt a drum because his body was slender.
It wasnt a black tip or a bull because the fish sat on the bottom. (Sharks rarely stay still)
It wasnt a red because the color was wrong.

If anyone has any idea about what this fish could have been please let me know. I am on a quest to catch the unknow again and feind out what it is.
