I want to ride off rode every weekend to compliment the road riding. This way I think I can be prepared for expert racing in the spring.

Saint Sean Payton Wednesday, Jan 18 2006

                        SAINT

Welcome Saint Payton to our wonderful Chocolate City. You are pretty white looking, I thought that is why we fired Haslett. But anyhow welcome. I will be at every home game with a paper bag booooing your ass if I have to. Some words of advise, if you want to survive, is get rid of Brooks. No reason to keep around one part of a bad combo and ordaine Vince Young and some offensive lineman. I also think you should bring in your own staff because we need to completely clean that shit-hole out. Can you also try and find us another lunch bunch. Oh yeah, Please dont be afraid to let the dogs out.

CHOMPS

Chocolate city, bad comments and working comments Tuesday, Jan 17 2006

          weed

Ha, Nagin does some dumb shit sometimes. I mean come on you are being watched and analysed for your every movement and word and you going to say something like “chocolate City” and “God is mad at America”. I think that before that comment he was teetering between hero and dumb-ass, now I think we know the answer. I understand where you were coming from but damn dude.
Thanks to WillCore the comments now work on CHOMPS. Thanks Bra

Lara in Cali., ginger drink and gettin shit done Tuesday, Jan 17 2006

          weed

Lala is in Cali visiting her peoples till Thursday. So sad, I get back from vacation and she goes on one. We got to get our schedules in line.
I am addicted to anything that has Ginger in it. I dont know if it is because I quit smoking or because my body is craving it but I dont care if its ginger ale, ginger tea or powdered ginger drink I want it.
I am doing as much of the video as I can this week since Lara is out of town. Tonight I am working remotely and tomorrow I am going to go pick Karol up and we are going to get some animation done.

Oak Mountain Kicked my ass Monday, Jan 16 2006

          storm

It was a stormy cold Friday 13th as I drove to Oak Mountain. It was strange right from the beginning. Lilah decided to jump out of the jeep window @ 20mph in a u-turn on West Esplenade and that was before we even left the state. She looked like she was both embarrassed and shocked. Then we drove through a group of storms on my way to Oak Moutain that made it seem like dusk for hours. Once we arrived I quickly set up camp to beat the approaching storms. I later chatted with my bike buddies and came to the conclusion that it was way colder than we liked it to be. The wind was gusting at 30mph and was deep into the 30’s. We sat as close to the fire witho out getting burnt as we could. Needless to say it was a cold rough first night and next morning. Dave and I rode the trail at around noon. I suffered because I was both out of shape and exuasted from the cold night.

                        storm

I decided to stay another night because I was too tired to drive and I want to conqeur Oak Mountain before I left. The next night was even colder but the wind was not around so it felt warmer. We ate drank and were merry. The next morning I woke up at 7:30 a.m. and was ready to ride. I put on the Licra and and stepped out of the tent to find it was down right fucking cold. Every liquid that was left out of a cooler was frozen solid.

                        storm

I started a fire, woke up Dave and we were on the trail by 8:30 a.m. This day I conquered. I had more strength and confidence to get me through the trail. I am ready to go back already.

MLK, second line and 3 shot Monday, Jan 16 2006

                             mlk"

“I wish you had commended the Negro sit-inners and demonstrators of Birmingham for their sublime courage, their willingness to suffer and their amazing discipline in the midst of great provocation. One day the South will recognize its real heroes. They will be the James Merediths, with the noble sense of purpose that enables them to face Jeering, and hostile mobs, and with the agonizing loneliness that characterizes the life of the pioneer. They will be old, oppressed, battered Negro women, symbolized in a seventy-two-year-old woman in Montgomery, Alabama, who rose up with a sense of dignity and with her people decided not to ride segregated buses, and who responded with ungrammatical profundity to one who inquired about her weariness: “My fleets is tired, but my soul is at rest.” They will be the young high school and college students, the young ministers of the gospel and a host of their elders, courageously and nonviolently sitting in at lunch counters and willingly going to jail for conscience’ sake. One day the South will know that when these disinherited children of God sat down at lunch counters, they were in reality standing up for what is best in the American dream and for the most sacred values in our Judaeo-Christian heritage, thereby bringing our nation back to those great wells of democracy which were dug deep by the founding fathers in their formulation of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.” Martin Luther King Jr. “letter from Birmingham Jail“, April 16, 1963

The Social Aid & Pleasure Club All-Star Second-Line took to the street for what was supposed to be in support of New Orleans’ renewal and their own role in the city’s future. This second line ended like many of them do, in gun fire. This is known to locals and those do attend understand they may be the target of a stray or intentional bullet. The amount of people who attend out number the ones who fire the shots by 5,000/1 at least. It only takes one to fuck up the party though. Who is going to come into this already injured city and kick her while she is down? I dont understand it.
A simliar problem accoured on lower Decateur this weekend. Lower Decateur has been the home to many traveling musicians/Gypsys/hippies/gutter punks/vagrants and lots of folks that just dont fit into the majority of America.New Orleans takes them with open arms for the most part, hell alot of lower decateur was populated this way. Not to say they are not the focus of police harrassment or anything like that but they are part of New Orleans. This weekend I came home to find out that a new (decateur kid) decided that he was going to beat a lady bad enough to spen a few days in the hospital for $12 and then next night try and pull a man out of his car an beat him for money. A local policeman put it like this “If you dont take care of this bad egg then it is going to come down on all of ya’ll” he then said, “It is the same with the police, if one cop does something bad then the whole force feels the repercussion, so before this gets to that you need to care of this.”

Meetings, working then I get to go Mountain Biking Wednesday, Jan 11 2006

          mountain

Got a meeting today about the video, which is behind schedule. I pre-planned for it to fall behind but I would rather be ahead. I am going to get busy on it for tonight and tomorrow night and then I waking up realllllly early and heading to Oak Mountain for a couple of days to act as a catalyst for lung repair. I have been smoke free for about 10 days and I am feeling better but I am still not a fully functional Death Star.

A new way Monday, Jan 9 2006

          cold

There is a new way I am keeping order in my own personal chaos so that it does not interfere with those around me. Now this is merely an idea and the exact approach has yet to be completed but it is in the works. Here is the start of my list:

  • Answer my cell phone when people call. (I understand that this is how things are done and I feel that I should at least have the courtesy to answer)
  • Follow through with what I say I am going to do no matter how insignificant it may seem
  • Attempt a sleeping routine to a certain extent
  • Leave my work at work

Well that is a start. I am not trying to be perfect or give in to my personality, I am just trying to make it less abbrasive to others. It will, in the long run, benefit me.

NOLA proud. Friday, Jan 6 2006

Jonah “Spasticrobot” Langenbeck sent me this today. Now I think this is completely brilliant. It is the small pieces of New Orleans/Louisiana that make it independent and sovereign. This is the 4th paragraph of the introduction from the didntheramble link:

“As my friend Ian McNulty recently confessed to me in a moment of clarity, many of us live in New Orleans not by choice but because we can’t function anywhere else. The reality is not that extreme. The pre-Katrina city was unique because it allowed people to be their true eccentric selves. A lot of the New Orleans evacuees will certainly succeed in moving on and finding jobs and creating successful lives in other cities, but will those cities allow them to be “Snake” or “Baudy Man” or “Betty Boo”?.

I have my doubts.”

I have had this same discussion with several people and it is true. We are New Orleans and that is why we are here. We cant survive outside and still be our New Orleans selves. Its not a life style but more of a way of life.
Happy Twelfth Night!
