Condition of the Spillway Monday, Jan 30 2006

               swamp_bike

I went mountain biking in the Spillway yeaterday. This trail was in perfect condition.

               expert_01

I have not been there for over a year and I was so excited to see all of the new obstacles.

               expert_02

I only did the teeter-totter.

               expert_04

I was alone so I didnt want to try the others without a friend to carry me out of the woods and drive to the hospital.

I did 2 laps around 3 p.m.. It ws beautiful out there. The temp was perfect and the sun was going down by the time I left. It was a great experience especially because I was alone. I could go at my own pace in the quite still swamp. It was an awesome way to finish a cycling weekend.

Kenny’s Bicycle ride. Monday, Jan 30 2006

Jonah, Dave, Chris and I showed up at Audobon Park to participate in the bike tour of New Orleans. About 50 people headed out a little after 8 a.m., then I got a flat around 8:10 a.m.. The pace was extremely slow and the streets are in bad contition and I mean way worse than pre-Katrina. So we had a lot of flat tire stops on top of the stops for Kenny’s commentary. So we were out there for 6 hours. The wind was blowing hard from the South and we hit some head wind that would knock you off your bike.

It was an adventure but it was also very depressing. The devastation is mind blowing and the loss of life becomes unconfortably real. There are not words to describe how it feels to ride through Chalmette and the lower 9th.

The ride made me think of what the reality of this city really is. I dont think I will ever feel safe from a hurricane in this city but I want there to be a plan in the works to make New Orleans ready for the next hurricane.

Narnia (a piece of crap) Friday, Jan 27 2006

Me and the Lala went and saw Narnia last night and might I add what a piece of poopoo. I even walked in with very low expectations and still left disappointed. Dont even waste your time going to see it. The CG were awefull and I know that Rhytmn and Hues did this CG and those guys to great work but this, unacceptable. I dont understand if it as the art direction or the compositor but it was very bad. I am at a lost for words that are not four lettered.

Kenny’s New Orleans Adventure Tour Set Jan. 28 Friday, Jan 27 2006

Tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. sharp a group ride/tour of the hardest hit areas of New Orleans will depart from the Magazine entrance to Audubon Park. This is what I grabbed from the BRAMBA web site:

On Saturday, Jan. 28 I will be hosting a tour of New Orleans’ most impacted
areas, including Chalmette. This will be an easy ride of about 60 miles with
several stops along the way, expect 4 hours or less. The pace will be
typical (or what is supposed to be typical) for a winter ride … strictly
small ring. We will stop at several significant places, levee breaks and a
couple of flooded homes with commentary by myself and others that have
first-hand knowledge, personal loss or riveting stories. People from outside
the area are especially welcome and encouraged to come. I can promise that
this will be educational and unforgettable to anyone who participates. Even
if you live(d) in New Orleans, you should join us for this memorable ride.
It is guaranteed to give you a greater understanding of the scope of
Hurricane Katrina and you will see and touch things that some bus tour can’t
offer.

What you will need for this ride:

  • 1. Good tires! I’ve been riding in these areas a bunch lately and have yet
  • to get a flat, but my tires are brand new. There is a lot of glass on the
roads. Tube, pump, etc. highly recommended.

  • 2. A camera.
  • 3. Scruffy shoes: We will get off the bikes and walk up to at least one
levee break. It is rocky and rough and your best shoes and cleats might make
you think otherwise. This is really something you should see up close.
  • 4. Entry fee: Write public officials from other states. Forward your
pictures to out of state friends. Get the word out how bad our politicians
screwed up and how they continue to screw up. Just go home and talk about
    it.
  • I hope to see all of my riding buddies there.

Tonight, I sleep. Thursday, Jan 26 2006

I worked again last night. I am getting burnt so tonight I am taking off, well I am not meeting with Kidd. I am going to see Narnia with the Lala and then I am going to clean house for a busy ass weekend.

4 am, coffee and cycling dreams Wednesday, Jan 25 2006

We broke through last night with animation. We worked about 5 hours at Envie and then remotely for another 4. I missed my run this morning but I am going to try and do it this afternoon. I drank 2 coffees from 7 - 11 and that was enough to keep me up all night. I only have a few more weeks of this before I am finshed with the animation.
To entertain myself I day dream of cycling on a clear windless day for hours on end.

No Sleep Till ! ? ! ? Tuesday, Jan 24 2006

Minimal sleep and constant critiques and changes is the way to happy animation. I slept about 4 hours last night which is not unusual for me. Today I work at my 9-5 job then I work from 7 till around 3 or 4, then repeat. I will do this till I am done. I actually love this deadline stress.

Speadin’ the Puddin’ Monday, Jan 23 2006

             closed

I drove out to Mississippi to ride De Soto. I assumed the trail would be open since the web site indicated it was. Well I was wrong. Katrina had her way with De Soto. Trees were down everywhere. Logging trucks had made rodes through forest to collect the fallen trees. The devastation the forest is really large scale.

             tree"

The trail could not be riddin because they were covered in trees and debris. I could however ride the muddy trails made by the logging trucks. It is not what I went for but I was not driving for 2 hours to turn around a go back. So I decided to spread the puddin’ (ride in really muddy conditions) for about an hour and a half then went back to the Trail Head.

When I rode up to the Trail Head I saw some other riders, who looked like they were doing was I was doing, said the were just fussed at by a Ranger. They told me he made the sound out the words “This area closed to public use” while he was pointing at the sign. Before they could finish telling me he turned around and came back to fuss at me a little. He didnt get out of truck for me, he just told methat if he catches any of there it would be $150 fine.

Trying not to sway from focus. Friday, Jan 20 2006

Its easy to sway from focus when there is so much fun to be had. I am considering my current job at hand fun though and I am getting shit done tonight so that I can ride without being stressed. I am hoping to get to the flags on the levee tomorrow. That comes out to be about 45 miles and that will fit perfectly. I am going to try and be back in time to get my Yeti cleaned and tuned for Sunday. The Lala is back and she is working all night so I can devote alot of time to the animation.
