This is an interesting article from sciam.com about robots that are designed to walk like humans. Although the research is being used for prosthetic limbs I couldnt help but think about humanoid type robots such as Asimo . It is an interesting trend in robots to have human characteristics. C3PO and most other blockbuster robots have been humanoids (except R2 of course).  It does not seem like a superior functionality to design a robot to be human-like.
