NOLA skool sistum Monday, Jan 31 2005

So I went to a friends house to help her son with a science project for school. He is 12 and he did a pretty interesting project using toothpaste and agar.  He is using a project guide from 1974 and he was not taught how to reference a url in the bibliography. I just used MLA format and printed it out in case his teacher gave him any problems. He is a really smart kid and the New Orleans school system is not up to speed to keep up with him.

a rough day Thursday, Jan 27 2005

Poundworm_1Like 80 grit rough. I guess I have been riding smoothly for a while and a rough day is inevitable but damn
it still sucks. My words are not coming out like I think they are and I
seem to be able to push someones buttons pretty easily. I will wait
till tomorrow to try again. Tonight I just want to go home a stay away
from any potential miscommunications.

What is going on here. Wednesday, Jan 26 2005

BacteriaIs it me or has this whole city been sick for the past month. I mean, everywhere I go someone is telling me that they are sick. On Monday over half of the office was out sick. There seems to be like three different variations of the sickness.
   1. The headache, fever, cough, sore      throat, sneeze I am never going to wake up from this nap.
   2. The I just dont feel good. Belly hurtin’, fever cough.
   3. The everything must go by any means available.
I was blessed with the first about three weeks ago and it lasted about three days but the cough lingered on. It was very helpful when quitting smoking though. I have  heard a few theories about this. They all involve tourist and the military. What does not kill us here in NOLA will prepare us for the next Disease outbreak.

Internal funnies and the comforts of home. Tuesday, Jan 25 2005

SecretThis is a small city and things happen so often that are at a small increment of seperation. This weekend several little circumstances backed this up. There were  people that I saw on Saturday night, that at the time, I thought nothing of it. Today I hear stories of these folks that completely crack me up. Somebody who has no idea who these people are, come to me with a story about them.
On a different note: I spent last night just relaxing at the house with Lara and going to bed early. At some point in the night I woke up and took notice to comfort and appreciation that I feel when I am with Lara. Ok, I know it sounds cheezy but it was a powerful moment.

The season is here. Monday, Jan 24 2005

Its_onMardi Gras season is now in full swing. Krewe du Vieux went off without a hitch. I had a great time in the hood taking pics of the parade and then I went to Frenchman to meet up with my friends. I love this time of year. The air is care-free and the amount of love around NOLA is ten folds (with exceptions of course). It was amusing to watch some non-locals pretend to get it when they have no idea. I give them applause for the effort though. Keep trying it will come to you.

Drum, and horns Saturday, Jan 22 2005

I am excited as I sit a listen to the Brass Bands warm up down the street getting ready for Krewe du Vieux.

All I want to do is ride my bike Friday, Jan 21 2005

74189973tThe little bit of warmth this morning made me want to ride right past my office. I wanted to ride until I couldnt pedal anymore. I wanted to ride to Audubon Park turn right at the dog park and take the levee all the way to NORCO. The wind, the smell and just the sheer enjoyment of riding.
A
Zen teacher once asked his students why they rode bicycles. One said he
rode to carry potatoes. Another cycled to observe the world. A third
said it cleared the mind, and a fourth said cycling put him in harmony
with all sentient beings. The Zen master was pleased, but when the
fifth replied, "I ride my bicycle to ride my bicycle," the teacher sat
at the student’s feet and said, "I am your student."

Today is the day. Democracy has died. Today I will mourn NOLA style. I will be on decateur at around 1. Here are some nice pics of NOLA and Metarie. I have no idea who this is, I found while surfing for pics of Decateur street. I love the Gambinos sign lit up and the Thrift City sign.

Image2_2It is so early this year but I am getting more and more excited. Parades have already started in the hood and I am humming some fess songs and dancing uncontrollably. The St. Anthony Ramblers are ready.
